Morrigan - Color study update

I have been busy working on other projects for the last couple of weeks and had to put Morrigan aside. I've really missed working on her. Tonight I found the time to revisit her and my goal is to get the outline transferred to canvas by the end of the week. That is the hope and desire!

I decided to change the color of the top of her dress... the red was pulling too much focus. I am liking this color composition better and I still have details to work out before I am completely satisfied.

Morrigan

This is the almost finished line drawing that I am prepping for a 36" x 48" painting. There are a few more elements to add and I am getting very excited about taking it to canvas. Before I do that I will be doing some color studies in illustrator.

This idea came about while researching stories and myths behind crows. I am planning on doing a series of paintings that show how multiple cultures have used this animal in their legends and myths. It really fascinates me how one symbol can mean very similar and different things depending on perspective.

I will write more about the story behind this painting at a later time, as it seems that this drawing is still speaking to me. :)

Sketching from this week's camping trip

Sketching in the car. This is my friend, Chris, driving his fiancée, Jennifer, and I to our destination. It is very tricky to draw in the car since every time I put my pencil to paper, the road makes the pencil JUMP. Lots of little scribbles made up the drawing on the left. Oh, and Chris has a lot of tattoos on his arms and neck... those scribbles had to stay REALLY loose... try as I might, the car wouldn't let me get any more detailed than that! Challenging!

Drawing in a little cave inside of some rocks at Enchanted Rock, Texas.

My drawing stoop.

It was really nice to draw in a book since I spend a lot of time drawing on the computer.
