This is Why I Draw
I just received this wonderful testimonial for the avatar that I created for Shayan to put on my website.
"This was an amazing experience. I wanted to give my 7 year old Nephew something new for his birthday. He loves Avatar the Cartoon and I wanted him to see the Avatar in him. Darcy was really good about keeping me informed through the process and showing me the different stages of the drawing. This was most likely the best gift I could have ever have given him. This is now going to be a tradition for the rest of my nieces and nephews. I see this as a great way for them to build self confidence. Thank You Darcy!"
I am so grateful to receive this because this is one of the main reasons for why I draw. As a child I was inspired by artists and illustrators. As an adult I want to inspire children to follow their hearts, their imagination, and their dreams. I receive so much when I draw beyond the value of money. Through art I am continually learning more about myself and what I have to give, and it brings me so much joy to see that reflected in others.
Thank You, Goldie and Shayan!

Write a Letter, Visit a Friend on Paper
About a year ago I made this post: Write a Letter
And my roommate (who lives right across the hall) visited me in a letter. :) She made it, then lost it, then months later gave it to me... which reminded me that people DO read my blog! Then I put it away in a drawer and found it today while cleaning. :) It still made me smile.
Filled with wonderful things. A picture of her cat, Gabe; my favorite president and his children; a Care Bear valentine; her favorite Office character, Dwight; an altered valentine to read "Happy Obama Day" and a card from Paris. Thanks Jess!

Crazy envelope. No postage necessary.

Heffalump Gift
I love paper! I also love making things with paper! This is a gift that I made for my friend Sandy. It includes a miniature replica of a Rock Band drum kit that is made entirely out of paper. This was a lot of fun to engineer.

Oh, where the craziness will take you!
In an attempt to step outside of the box a few days ago, I decided to ask friends for sketch suggestions. I received several responses and didn't want to leave anyone out so I combined ideas. This led to a crazy "Mad Libs" sort of sketch that was amazingly fun to create! It is so much fun to take seemingly unrelated ideas and put them together to create something that I would have never dreamed up before! :P Of course, that is the principle behind using the imagination, isn't it?
Here are the first three sketches. Each was done under an hour. The goal is to quickly think of a way to combine four elements coming from four different people into one harmonious setting. I am definitely going to continue this! :D It is soooo much fun!
