Disney Princess!

I realize that this is my second post with no doodle to speak of in this doodle blog. :) However... it is related to creativity. I've been learning to balance the time that I create, with time to receive and to refill my cup. Today I went walking in the outdoors and remembered that every time I do this I wish that I had my camera in hand. Well, today I remembered! And I rejoiced! And I do believe that I have some great photos to reference for future doodles! That, and I was convinced that I was a Disney Princess because the forest creatures all rushed out to befriend me...(in serious denial that they were looking for the food that I did not have!)

Hello! Aren't you darling?

This looks comfy!

Such a cute belly!

Framed!

Quack!!

Amazing Dream

I had an amazing dream last night!

I was a part of a graphic novel in progress...like it was being drawn at the same time I was experiencing it. I was the lines.. I was the individual panels... what was being drawn was in three dimensions and characters would float out of their respective panels to interact with other panels and their contents. I remember a beautifully drawn rabbit emerging... the colors were rich throughout the entire dream. I felt so close to the ink, and fibers of the paper that I was the story. Everything was connected. Sometimes I was so close I could only see a whole frame at a time, seeing parts of others where they connected. It all moved very gracefully. I don't remember music, although it seems that there was a soundtrack. The whole thing was very fluid.

I may have to draw this!

Mockingbird Station Sketch

Yesterday was an absolutely gorgeous day in Dallas (today too for that matter, but this post is about yesterday. :P) I decided to visit a local comic book store for some research and inspiration for a "graphic novel" that I am currently working on (yay!) and took a detour for some lunch at Cafe Express at Mockingbird Station. It was such a great idea! The weather was perfect, I sat outside and had sweet potato fries and a veggie sandwich.

After eating I decided to pull out my sketchbook and did a quick sketch of some of the buildings and the tops of the umbrella tables that were around me. I used a grease pencil for this one. I am going to have to do this at least once a week.

Afterward I went on a journey across Dallas trying to locate a comic book store and eventually found one across the street from Mockingbird Station... where I had started! :D I picked up a fantastic book called "Flight" Check out a preview of it out here! This book is so inspiring... I am going to have to collect all four (soon to be five)! It is part of a comic anthology series that showcases young and innovative artists and writers. A definite jewel to add to my inspirational collection.

Parade

This week's Illustration Friday subject is "Parade". Sometimes, I get to lead the "Kitty Parade" in the middle of the night if I have forgotten to feed the cats before I go to bed. This one is really sketchy and quick.

Monkeys and Roosters and Tigers... OH MY!

The following images are of two gift boxes I created for two very dear friends of mine.

My friend Bryon and I are currently studying the Japanese language together. The symbol on the box is Kanji for "Friend" or "Tomodachi". In Chinese astrology Bryon is a rooster and I am a tiger. *Raar* :) A friendly tiger. *Mew* There are no feathers hanging out of my mouth...

This box is for my friend Matt. In Chinese astrology Matt is a Monkey... which is funny! It is funny because, apparently, Monkeys and Tigers are supposed to be mortal enemies. Matt, being a very musical friend, has created a catchy little tune called "The Tiger and the Monkey Can be Friends!" Super Awesome! :D
