Relaxed.
Ahhh. I taught a drawing class a few months ago called "Drawing from the Subconscious Mind." This was a great experience because it really helped me to become clear on why I draw, how I draw and how I can teach someone else how to draw—and how to enjoy the process where you are, regardless of skill level.
I also taught how to move the ego out of the way, that inner critic that is quick to tell you that you are messing up, that you are not doing a good job, and that you should put the pencil down now, for goodness sake! By moving that critic out of the way and accessing more of the right brain, more of the subconscious mind, you are able to create more fluidly, beyond preconceived, limited ideas.
I've become more and more intrigued by accessing that subconscious part of my mind, and allowing a stream of consciousness experience to unfold as I sketch. "Relaxed" is the result of today's experience. I sat down at my computer, wacom tablet pen in hand, and then began to let my hand go crazy. CRAZY! As I drew I saw stones, then I saw a stone wall, then I saw myself sitting upon the stone wall, a breeze in my hair, the horizon far away, clouds in the sky... ahhh. And I experienced that relaxation... which in my very busy day at work... was just what I needed.
Thank you subconscious mind.
